Here are some excerpts from  various pages of the book:

"...You have opened my heart toward taking the first step even though I do not
know what will happen after that. It seems to me that if you approve of my
birth parents there must be something good about them.
I already know Molly and I like her. I hope I can say the same thing
about the professor. In the near future, I may be receptive
to sharing with them that ‘special kind of love’ to which you have referred.
I am not an expert with words, but it must be without demands,
subordinate to a superior kind of love–but love nonetheless.”
___ooo0ooo___
"You may argue that I had no other real experience to compare their love with,
but why would I need to compare my state of mind insofar as feeling loved
when I have never felt the lack of it?"
___ooo0ooo___
"The actions preceding this visit paved the way for a new beginning marked by that
wondrous feeling of FEELING WANTED, a phrase I am borrowing from you ...
While I had always felt the LOVE of my (adoptive) parents, they also proved that
they WANTED me in their lives. Two different concepts independent in their
values but, when put together, they elevate the meaning of the word
‘love’.”

From the poem MAKE AMENDS:
"Uncover the lies, relieve the hurt, be brave before it's too late; tell the
truth ... let it be! Make amends! And you'll be FOREVER FREE!"
___ooo0ooo___
"... But my sweetheart was there, eager as I was to share fleeting while unforgettable
moments".
___ooo0ooo___
"...blurted out a new bombshell, quick enough as to keep me prisoner of her
sorrowful confession..."
___ooo0ooo___
"...a passionate kiss equal to no other, or so I eagerly believed..."
___ooo0ooo___
"Our love affair started somewhat platonic, which gave way to our needing more..."

NOTE:  To Smashwords' credit, their software was awsome and I could upload the eBook and see it published in just a few minutes; to my credit, I was able to do it without help, following the publisher's guidelines. Later on I will give some of my own suggestions to authors who  also may want to do it on their on. For those who are not familiar with Word (read Smashwords guidelines) the company provides a list of independent eBook formatters who will do it for a fee. I almost did it but, in reality, I had somehow mastered the requirements and decided to take chance. The book will be distributed via different channels, Sony, Apple, Kobe, Nook, Kindle, etc. (can be read in any of those formats).

MAKE  AMENDS

If you ever lied about family or friends
If you told that lie time and again
But you never told the truth
To the people you had lied to
It  is time to make amends

If you've hurt family or friends
And  you saw the agony in them
How their lives forever changed
But you chose to ignore their pain
It is time to make amends

Whether  you shower your graces on others
Or  you pray to God for redemption
Because you are good... Just do the math!
Don't ignore your painful wrath
Wake up my friend and make amends!

Uncover the lies, relieve the hurt
Be brave before it's too late
Tell the truth - Let it be!
Make amends!
And  you'll be Forever Free...

MY PET PEEVES

5/19/2012

1. TV commecials get louder as the evening approaches. Bad ads!
2. Products (mainly edible)  that only disclose "Distributed by" with no mention as to the country of origin and/or manufacture.
I am hoping for that to change. To their credit, some companies list country of origin and manufacture, i.e., "Product of USA - Manufactured in USA." I have seen products noting their country or origin in the front but listing another country in the back (processor, packer, etc.).
3. Newspaper ad inserts that have a half-page only on the outside. Annoying!
4. Most products (mainly edible) adhere to a size/quantity/weight/portions, etc. so that buyers can compare, on an equal basis, ingredients such as salt, sugar, etc. I came across a very famous cheese brand recently that had reduced the typical serving amount thus reflecting a lesser amount of salt, cholesterol, etc. Since it sounded too good to be true, I read some more to realize they were referring to an onion-thick slice of cheese. Not right!
5. Many Government and private entertaining venues do not list their addresses on newspaper ads. Although many of them may be well known to some locals, not everyone happens to know the exact location of parks, theaters, etc.; moreover, location should be made available for the convenience of tourists too. Some people need to know at the very moment they see the ad without having to connect to the internet to get the location.
6. Although theaters, for example, may find it difficult to state their show prices given seat location, other shows, exhibits, recreational facilities, etc. should list their prices (adults, seniors, children) in their ads. With paper and price in hand, it is easier to make a reservation when there is an interest; later on it might be forgotten altogether.
7. Some restaurants add too much salt and pepper to the food whereas salt and pepper shakers are available right at the table. In the case of pepper, higher-priced restaurants will bring it to you. When people like lots of salt and pepper, any excess amount added by the chef will not be enough anyway. For those who cannot or will not have it in excess it is a turn-off. Too much of anything in the food will override the taste of the other ingredients.
8. Some OTC products will list the main ingredient with a propriatary name and measurement thus not making it possible to be compared to a competitor's product (many use the generic name with standard dose/measurement).

FINISH EDITING YOUR BOOK BEFORE . . .

5/9/2012

When my children’s book was finished but still in the editing stages I
decided to go Indie. I still had not mastered all the Microsoft Word/Publisher’s
requirements including how to upload my paintings and drawings (I ended up
mailing the originals) when I saw myself committing to the one publisher. Only
then I realized that I had placed the bull behind the cart: While I was learning
how to reformat my manuscript I was also dealing with choosing full color or
black; cover type, soft or hard; number of pages to determine cost, etc. Too
many things to take care of while trying to properly edit the book time and
again as every other detail and publisher’s instructions changed. Finally, upon
realizing that the retail cost for a soft-cover book would not be competitive I
had to shrink the manuscript to 42 pages in full color. That resulted in more
editing for format, directing my efforts not to content but to looks and
pricing. Realizing that I had missed the Christmas/Holidays Season I cancelled
the Publisher’s promotion. Regardless of the rushed-out process, I do like my
book since it was written with children in mind plus also with an added section
in the back promoting the love and appreciation of all animals, domestic or
wild.
I have now completed a General Fiction Young Adult story; there being so many
other activities in one’s life, this new book has been put aside on and off for days
on end. When trying to do the final editing, one whole day must be made available for
that purpose. Unless one edits sort of non-stop, any duplication of words,
sentences or sayings might be overlooked. I also find that at least one week
must pass before attempting the final editing to allow for a clear mind. Even then,
as an artist-writer, I never consider anything finished, I can always find a better
way to say things or to improve my artwork. But, don't we all . . .?

The tribulations of publishing my first book were not suffered in vein. I have slowed
down the process to where I will do all the homework first before attempting to have my
second book published.

TO TREADMILL OR NOT

5/8/2012

While  I decide whether to buy a treadmill or not, I do my "walks" inside my home.
Whenever I cannot walk outside, I place a high-back chair fronting
the  TV, drop a plastic (not rubber) mat on the floor behind it, put my hands at
each  end of the top of the chair to keep balance (not really necessary) and stand on the mat to begin
"walking" as I would in any treadmill, maintaining the speed I can tolerate.
The  mat will allow the feet to slide as necessary and I can start/stop the
exercise  at will. I measure my progress either by counting the minutes or the
number of  (leg) strides. I also do the "walk" by bending the knees as if I were
marching.  I find this a terrific stationary walk when other means are not
possible. The  above is provided not as an advice but only to share my
experience. For those  with health or other issues , please consult your doctor
before trying this  exercise. PS. I ride a bike but that depends on the weather.

ORIGAMI, AS POPULAR AS EVER. . .

5/8/2012

(From  the Book "Birdyjosh and Birdylu, a Paper Birds' Story")

"For those not familiar with the word Origami,  it is an ancient Japanese art
using  paper to form animal and human figures,  objects, etc.
The word was derived  from "ori" and "kami" for paper. Playful and
entertaining as a form of manual  arts, it is enjoyed worldwide by children and
adults. Over the years, many  pictorial books have been published showing in
detail how to easily create a  boat, hat or shirt, as well as the more intricate
figures such as birds, insects  and many other animals or objects. A Web search
for Origami will yield several  sites with instructional videos featuring this
ancient but not forgotten art. I  could go on and on discussing this famous
paper- folding act, but this book was  not designed to teach the popular Origami
techniques; its purpose, rather, is to  tell a story - the tale of two loving
paper birds". (The book can be purchased in paperback or Kindle format in Amazon
-preview available- and other sales channels).

MY NEW WEEBLY WEBSITES SHOWED UP ON SEARCHES RIGHT AWAY!

5/1/2012

Even though Microsoft had offered a new hosting service to replace the free OLSB one, I decided to move my two Websites to WEEBLY; I had researched this entity and started creating my first site "olivaarteshow." Since my site-building experience is limited I had the initial self-troubleshooting problems. By now I am not an expert but have been discovering the how-tos little by little. Due to Microsoft's deadline of 4/30/12 for my existing accounts to disappear from the Web, I had to rush the transfer of, first, the one site mentioned above followed by the other, "AntiquesArtBookworld." The last one was finally approved yesterday by the domain tansferor and, just as with the first one, it also appeared on the search engines immediately. I do not know who to thank for that, but I am happy with all the cooperation received from GoDaddy and WEEBLY. The latter provides paid-for upgrades but, for now, I will keep what I have, improve the sites as much as I can and, finally, spend more time writing and editing my works. Thanks for visiting my Websites!
